Audy's Ears #3

My baby is nearly seven months old.  I feel, once again, like I've been under water for the past month.  There was a flurry of events that led up to my sister's visit, our trip to Minnesota, Christmas, returning to the flu and finally getting our feet back down on the ground.

Who me?!
Most notably, we are getting answers for our baby's hearing problems.  Today we went to the second ENT and feel so much better.  (If you haven't followed the saga: Audrics Ears #1 & Audric's Ears #2 have the earlier story.)

After our last ABR test at the Hearing Center, our ENT didn't really know what to tell us.  He recommended that we see his colleague who deals with pediatrics more.  We were really frustrated.

Today, we were first seen by the "scribe" for the doctor who took notes on all of Audy's history.  (Pretty easy, seeing as it's only been 7 months!)  The doctor found fluid in his left year, which has always been the case.  He did another tympanogram (tests the eardrum) which confirmed the fluid in the left ear and showed some issue with the right as well.  He's suggesting that we put tubes in - maybe it will clear up the hearing issues.  If it does, great!  If not, we can move forward with hearing aides.

This doctor was so thorough.  Before we left - we were there maybe 40 minutes total - he handed us a typed page of notes about our issue, what was done at the appointment, and what the plan is.  Pretty awesome considering the run around we feel like we've gotten!

Loving the 70 F January!
So between today and the care and attention we've gotten from our school district's special ed program, we feel pretty covered with blessings. A teacher is going to come to our house this week or next and start watching Audric's development.  I know he's a little behind because he's not babbling anymore.  Screaming, grunting, and heavy breathing (a little Darth Vaderish) but not babbling.  Hopefully we can make some progress quickly so he doesn't fall to far behind.

While baby might be a bit behind with hearing and speaking, his physical development is pretty advanced.  He's crawling like a mad man now - giving me a heart attack a day - and he thinks he can walk.  He pulls himself to standing everywhere - even in the bathtub.  Daddy and I are convinced he may not be a conversationalist, but he will be an active little boy.
All smiles for mama at the park
He's very curious about everything!

We started going to the park and I think we'll need to keep it up because he needs some action everyday, and our 250 sq feet we have for him isn't enough!  He's a very happy little guy...
