1/2 Marathon

1/2 MARATHON magnify

I'm supposed to run (ha) a half marathon tomorrow...but I can't, and haven't, run in over a month. I'm scared and afraid to look like a fool. But I'm going to go to bed now and hope that I'm not as lame as I feel.

So, God CAN perform modern day miracles. I started the day very down, but intent on at least FINISHING the race. I found a friend, which was nice (in a sea of 10,000) and decided that I would run with him until my back hurt or I couldn't go on. Well, when we split up around mile 7 or 8, I realized that I was going to do it. By mile 11, I was weak, but afraid that if I slowed down, I would never start up again. So, when mile 12. 5 came, I had to FINISH by running, and I did. I even found a bit in me to "kick it" at the end. I finished in 2:12:49! I came in one minute behind a friend that had been training intensely for the past month and only 4 minutes behind my friend that I had started with. My goal was 2:30 -- while I was training. I did MUCH better that I had anticipated.

So, lesson learned: Good training, even if slacked upon, yields promising results. A friend makes it easier. Set the goals high and tell someone about it -- they'll keep you to it!

I've got to go walk a bit, cause if I sit here, I might get stuck to the chair and fall over (already happened once today!)
