Pet Peeves

My new pet peeve is busy people. People that you want to get to know, but they can't pencil you in for two weeks. By that time, I've lost interest. I called a friend last night to see if he wanted to go to the movies and he rattled off his schedule for the nest 5 days -- so busy that he's worried about finding time to sleep. It's Christmas: I believe one should find time to relax, reflect, and respond to the reason for the season. BUT, volunteering for 17 different charity dinners, attending every party around, and shopping for every person you know is NOT what this season is about. I like to have a life, but I don't like every second of my life to be scheduled. I think my backlash to my pet peeve is a new inabliity to commit to ANYthing. Even say, making breakfast on Christmas morning. I'm going to, but I can't think about it right now.

So, we went to see Narnia last night: unimpressive. I've seen several productions of this over the years and this one was no different than the others, except that I could tell what the special effects were in this one. I didn't expect much, so I wasn't entirely disappointed; who in their right mind expected that they could capture the depth and potenecy of a CS Lewis novel? Turkish delight was a concotion created out of snow for a hungry boy -- it wasn't symbolic of anything. Aslan wasn't "safe" in this one -- he "wasn't a tame lion, but a good one..." AT the END of the story. How can one destory one of the best quotes of all the stories? I don't look forward to the rest of the series. In fact, I think I'm about to stop watching all book-into-movies flicks. It ruins the creative experience of reading. And other people's interpretations are always different than my own.
