Dad was worried about Mom's appointment yesterday, but they left the doctor's office in high spirits. My aunt (my mom's sister in law) went with them as she has some knowledge about this stuff from her own experience. It was good for them to have support.
Here's the short of it:
Mom starts chemo therapy Monday. She and Dad went to a class today to prepare them for what is to come and to teach them what she can and cannot do. She will be taking pills and an IV for two weeks, get a week off, followed by another two weeks of meds, a week off and finally one more round of drugs.
After all of this, they hope she is in remission (90% of patients who do this therapy are) and then they will harvest her stem cells from her bone marrow to perform a transplant.
She said she lost track of what's after that. Fair.
She's concerned about all the side effects of the drugs -it's A LOT. Treatment will give her time. And that's with today's medicine. Who knows what could come about. We were all encouraged by this.
She was in good spirits when I had dinner with them tonight. She did ask this verse be prayed over her: "Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and Carol's healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be Carol's rear guard." Isaiah 58:8
Between the emotions from this appointment, my husband being out of town for a week, a high school friend laid to rest on national television today, the very active baby inside of me, the babysitter having the flu, and not getting much sleep last night, I feel like I might break soon. Keeping my eyes on my Heavenly Father, but very distracted too...
