Storm Watch

Once again, the phenomenon of rain has invaded Southern California.

It's not actually raining per se, but a sprinkling.

Funny: it took me 35 minutes to make the 15 minute drive home (10 if I hit all gree lights). It seems that folks here can't drive above 15 mph when their windshield wipers are on. Nor can they use their turn signals. I suppose if one hand is on the phone and the other is on the wheel, flipping the wipers from low to high (as they accelerate 5 mph only to slam on the brakes when the bloke in front does the same), blinkers are an after thought.

It's like we're all in a hurry to get to the same place and in our p. we interrupt and slow down everyone's life around us. Driving on the shoulder, only to cut off 40 cars behind you doesn't get anyone anywhere faster.

So I stayed in the slow lane and enjoyed the drive home. Let them honk, let them crash. I love the refreshment of the rain, and I'm going to be refreshed by it. In a land that sees the sun 360 days a year, I welcome a day of clouds and water pouring from them. It washes away the months of dust, the hours of rubber on the road. It cleans the air, changes the pace. It interrupts us. I suppose, that's what we need. Maybe that's why we're all driving in the slow lane today: our speed is interrupted and we are inviting refreshement.

Or maybe some people just aren't that coordinated.
